Root Canals in SoHo, NYC — Done Here, Done Right

Root canals get a bad reputation they don’t deserve. A modern root canal is about as uncomfortable as a filling — and it saves your natural tooth from extraction. Our in-house endodontist has performed thousands.

When the nerve inside a tooth becomes infected (from a deep cavity, crack, or trauma), a root canal removes the infection, seals the tooth, and saves it from having to be pulled. At SOHO Dental Loft, we have an in-house endodontist — a dental specialist who focuses exclusively on root canal therapy — which means you get expert-level treatment without a referral.

Most root canals are completed in a single visit and feel no worse than a typical filling. We use digital imaging, rotary instruments, and modern anesthesia protocols to make the whole thing fast and comfortable.

Signs you may need a root canal:

  • Sharp pain when chewing
  • Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Swelling or tenderness in the gums near a tooth
  • A deep cavity that’s reached the nerve
  • Darkening or discoloration of a single tooth
  • A cracked or broken tooth

What to expect:

  1. Diagnostic exam and digital x-rays
  2. Local anesthesia (same as a filling)
  3. Access the tooth, clean out the infected nerve
  4. Fill and seal the root canals
  5. Temporary or permanent restoration
  6. Follow-up with a crown to protect the tooth long-term

FAQ

Does it hurt? The procedure itself is painless under modern anesthesia. Most of the “pain” people associate with root canals is actually the infection before treatment — and the root canal is what makes it stop.

How long does it take? Most single-tooth cases are done in 60–90 minutes.

Will I need a crown after? Usually, yes. A tooth that’s had a root canal is more brittle and benefits from a crown to protect it long-term. We handle that in-house as well.
